I read this post awhile back, but revisted it today. It is by my awesome friend Leah - who is like my homemaker sage. Wisdom beyond her years and her writing is beyond amazing. (Not to mention that her scrapbooking skillz are MAD!)

For some great advice about getting your kids to be more responsible (every mothers dream….right?) check it out here —> http://lifeaslou.blogsome.com/2011/04/11/kids-and-responsibility/

Dannon® and the National Breast Cancer Foundation are teaming up to Give Hope With Every Cup in the fight against breast cancer. It has been the mandate of the NBCF to increase awareness through education, provide diagnostic breast care services for women, and promote early detection while Dannon is committed to helping people lead a healthy lifestyle.  Together they have combined their efforts to fight Breast Cancer. They are working to rally a community around this cause and donate up $1.5 million to the National Breast Cancer Foundation with a guaranteed minimum donation of 500,000 through an innovative program called Give Hope With Every Cup.

Dannon Yogurt is already a staple in our house but with the One lid, one code, one entry element of the Give Hope campaign I feel even better about buying our favorite brand of yogurt! The code from each lid can only be entered once on the website —> http://www.cupsofhope.com/ and will donate 10 cents to help fight back against breast cancer, if you buy Danactive, look under the overwrap for codes that you can use.

Why is it so important to support this campaign? About 1 in 8 women in the United States (between 12 and 13%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime and In 2010, an estimated 207,090 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S. About 39,840 women in the U.S. are expected to die in 2010 from breast cancer - someone’s mother, sister, daughter, or wife. Death rates have been decreasing since 1991. These decreases are thought to be the result of treatment advances, earlier detection through screening, and increased awareness — all the things that the National Breast Cancer Association support.  I cannot begin to explain the importance of changing these statistics - they speak for themselves.  (if you need more convincing there are some touching testimonials on the site that will touch your heart)

So - help take a stand - support Dannon and help them make a difference.  Grab some yogurt next time you are shopping and visit http://www.cupsofhope.com/ to do your part!

Unilever. A trusted name - am I right? I was excited to get to try out Degree Girl with my just barely teenage and my tween daughters!! Check it out here —> http://www.dontfretthesweat.com/products/degree-girl (you can get coupons for the product by following the link as well!!)  According to the site it is "an anti-perspirant and deodorant that’s dermatologist-tested and body-responsive. So it’s able to instantly read and react to all of her body’s (over)reactions. With great 24-hour protection, Degree® Girl will get your girl through every OMG moment of her day with confidence."  I agree.  Not only it is a saucy looking product which the girls loved - but it worked awesome and smelled fantastic.  My sensitive skinned girl had no reaction, and that was a huge bonus for us!  I recommend the product for any mother looking for some tried and tested product that really works for those OMG moments.  I mean being a tween/teen is already hard enough, why let a little BO or sweat become something MAJOR. It lasted through basketball practice, camping, hiking, and wrestling with Dad :o ).  Two thumbs up!!!

You also need to check out http://www.dontfretthesweat.com/. It is a resource for parents who are dealing with those uncomfortable tween years - you know, those years when your sweet little boy or girl starts looking like The Fonz by dinner time and your tween girl can end up smelling like your tween boy. Greasy hair, hairy legs, and sweaty pits - the reality of the tween years (at least in our house :o )  ). BUT it does not have to make both you and your child shift feet and stumble through sentences. The site gives you all the info necessary for parents to talk to their tweens about how the right deodorant can keep them free from odor, embarrassment and discomfort along the way.

Every woman knows it; one of the hardest things a young girls has to deal with in adolescence is talking about menstruating and making choices about what products to use.  What did you first use?  Probably what your mother used!  Unattractive, un-enticing, and something to hide from everyone! Well, I got to try out some products with my 13 year old daughter from Kotex.  Kotex is THE BRAND in my house - I never use anything but Kotex.  I like a product I can trust and rely on!  This new line of products, U by Kotex, did not disappoint.  I  personally tried out the U by Kotex tampons.  They come in this gorgeous little box, are wrapped in vibrant fun colored wrappers and are easy to use.  Finally a product you want to show off to your friends!  They are pocket sized and adorable!  I admit it, not a word that you would associate with tampons, BUT when you consider a 13 year old who is already to the "ugh" stage of dealing with her womanhood, a little fashion and fun can be revitalizing!

Like a good tampon should it expands in all directions for maximum protection, has a smooth tip for insertion, and clicks into place.  In the U product line you can also find Clean Wear Pads, and Barely There Liners.  So..Basically it’s a one stop shop :o ). If you click the U by Kotex link above you can grab yourself some free samples and download a fun Daily Journal iPhone or iTouch app that allows you to create journal entries, upload to twitter or facebook, and even listen to music!! If you are interested check out some of the commercials on youtube, I suggest THIS ONE or watch the one below ;o)

We all know I appreciate a chance to review a great product.  This was NO EXCEPTION - ever since I was a little girl and Mom brought them home as a "special treat", my heart has been keen on Melba toast.  However, i was under the deluded impression that they came in only the original flavour I had come to love and covet. Imagine my suprise when the opportunity to try melba on a whole new MULTIGRAIN level came my way, I also sampled the Melba Snacks Spicy 3 Pepper..and they were awesome with cream cheese and a jalapeno on top. If you are in the market for some awesome recipes you need to check out THIS SITE and make some of the simple but amazing ideas they have posted for us!!  I never got the chance, but I bookmarked this recipe Chicken Soup and Crackers to go with my 3 pepper snack box.  Some other great ones include Chocolate Pistachio Crunch or  Atlantic Salmon Bites.  I myself covered the multigrain Melba Toast Crackers in hot pepper jelly on one occasion and on another Nutella with sliced almonds.  Totally satisfying snack.  I love that Melba went Multigrain!

On the A toast For Everyday Health Website there is also this amazing contest: Dance Your Way to Hollywood. As the website puts it: "Dance Your Way to Hollywood” will send one lucky winner and a guest to Tinseltown for a once-in-a-lifetime experience, including private dance lessons and tickets to watch the taping of a highly popular television show. The four-day, three-night, all-expenses-paid experience includes air travel and accommodations at a popular Hollywood hotel. Sweepstakes entries accepted March 17 through June 30, 2010."  sounds awesome right? Visit the site to enter now!!

I had the privilege of reading The Crimson Rooms by Katharine McMahon.  Still haunted by the death of her only brother, James, in the Great War, Evelyn Gifford is completely unprepared when a young nurse and her six-year-old son appear on the Giffords’ doorstep one night. The child, the nurse claims, is James’, conceived in a battlefield hospital. The grief-stricken Gifford’s take them both in; but Evelyn, a struggling attorney, must now support her entire family-at a time when work for women lawyers is almost nonexistent.

Suddenly a new case falls in Evelyn’s lap: Seemingly hopeless, it’s been abandoned by her male coworkers. The accused-a veteran charged with murdering his young wife- is almost certain to die on the gallows. And yet, Evelyn believes he is truly innocent, just as she suspects there may be more to the story of her "nephew" than meets the eye.

My Review: The Crimson Rooms is a poignant. and yet intriguing story.  Evelyn is an engrossing character and her strength and determination in not only dealing with the shock of learning of her brothers child and the child mother, but also in the unique, and gruesome case she is faced with which calls into question not only her gender but her ability.  Though the story begins slowly, it is not lacking in detail or event, McMahon is a master at metaphorically linking the environment with the state of her characters. Merdith is an extraordinary character with a remarkable, and moving, story.

Evelyn’s first case is Leah Marchant, a single mother who gave up her children when she couldn’t cope. Now she wants them back, but the authorities aren’t ready to hand them over.  The fact that she abducted the youngest while its caregiver was otherwise occupied coupled with the fact that a woman representing her aggravate the process. The second case is an old acquaintance of Evelyn’s employer, Stephen Wheeler.  He is charged with murdering his wife and her employer Mr. Breen believes him. Facts emerge that suggest he may be innocent but he remains silent.  The facts that emerge are shocking and unexpected, and are terribly sad, rooted in the Great War.

In the midst of all of this her life is further complicated by the relationship which develops with a colleague.  It is a complex story of love and loss, crime, passion, and intrigue. Although there are several branches within the story they all are developed to carry themselves.

Disclosure - I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by MotherTalk  and received a copy of the book to facilitate my candid review. Mom Central sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate in this tour.

I have had the opportunity to read Susan Wiggs latest novel Lake Shore Christmas

It is a feel good holiday story that anyone who cherishes or dreads the holidays can relate to.  Maureen, the prim and assertive librarian who loves the holidays, and Eddie the child star who has dreded the holidays ever since his parents turned the season into a roadshow, are faced with the challenge of putting on a christmas pagent together in Willow Lake.

Eddie doesn’t realize that the horrific accident that had taken place years ago has created a tie that finally  will find its way to emerge. Their differences of opinion on about what constitutes a Christmas - tradition versus non tradition - pagent makes for some hilarious banter.  Its a story about two people coming to terms with thier past and their differences and creating a bright and hopeful future.

Throw in the library closing and some blackmail, a desperate fund raiser, a few great side stories full of hope and the mysterious and amazing Jabez who changes them all —-> you have a good Sunday afternoon read.  It brings the magic of the holidays to life. Two thumbs up and a five star recommendation to anyone who loves a good read.
